World Vegan Month happens in November each year and it's kicked off with World Vegan Day to mark the first day of the month.
World Vegan Month is an internationally recognised campaign to mark and celebrate how far the vegan social justice movement has come. And to positively encourage non-vegans to participate in a cruelty-free lifestyle.
In November 1944 a man named Donald Watson held a meeting at the Attic Club in London with five other non-dairy vegetarians to discuss non-dairy vegetarian diets and lifestyles. Elsie Shrigley was one of the main people also involved alongside Donald Watson at this time and who also attended the first meeting. This meeting was the start of what became The Vegan Society.
But what actually is a Vegan lifestyle?
By definition, Veganism is "a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of humans, animals and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals."
What can I do if I want to find out more?
There are now millions of brilliant vegan resources. If you would like to give being vegan a try for 22 days then why not join the next vegan challenge at Challenge 22? It's a 22 day challenge where you are assigned a mentor and can have all of your questions answered. After the 22 days are up, you can see if you want to continue. They say it takes 21 days to change a habit, so 22 days should be enough time to give you an interesting introduction.
Also be sure to check out Miss Superfood for vegan recipes, inspiration and organic vegan passion clothing.
You could always join the Miss Superfood Goddess Tribe were you can vibe with other like minded people who are trying to live the most conscious, ethical lifestyle possible.
