IS A TONER REALLY NECESSARY?

Toners were originally designed as an additional cleansing product, intended to remove any stubborn traces of dirt, makeup or excess oil that your cleanser hadn't managed to remove.

And whilst this is still something that they can be used for, there is so much more to them. The most important thing that a good toner does is to restore the natural balance of your skin's pH.

We are passionate about beautiful, healthy skin and using a gentle, raw, organic, superfood toner is an essential step in the pursuit of this.

However, they are also one of the most underrated skincare products with a lot of people reporting to not using them and not really understanding why they are needed in the first place.

We thought we'd take some time today to explain exactly what they do and why they are such an important part of our daily skincare routine.

The use of soaps and cleansers (which are inherently alkaline) can disrupt our skin's normal pH which falls between 5 and 6 (indicating that it is naturally acidic).

Once disrupted, our skin cells work extra hard to restore the balance but this process often leads to the production of excess oil which leaves us with greasy skin and often, an outbreak of acne.

Skin toner contains carefully selected ingredients that instantly restore our skin's pH upon application. Once this natural balance has been restored, we are left with the perfect damp skin conditions for applying a raw, superfood moisturiser.

Applying moisturiser to skin that is slightly wet is the optimum condition for application as it maximises the absorption of the product into our skin.

As well as maximising the efficiency of our moisturisers, skin toners also provide a level of extra protection as they help to shrink our pores, keeping out external pollutants.

Here at Rawgaia, we apply recyclable atomisers (that break up liquid into a fine spray of droplets) to our bottles which makes application quick and easy.

Our skin toners all come in bottles that are flight-friendly as well which means that they can be popped into your bag and taken wherever you go.

This is useful as skin toners can also be used as an on-the-go cooling spray that not only smells divine but refreshes and revitalises your skin as you travel.

Choose from our Organic Goji Goddess Nutrient Mist which is great for normal skin, our MSM Beauty Tonic which is especially good for very sensitive and dry skin types or our hydra-toner; Organic Hemp Glow Mist which works wonders for teen, combination or oily skin.

Adding the use of a toner to your daily skincare routine won't take much time but it will make a huge difference in the quality and condition of your skin.

Don't be tempted to skip this step in the pursuit of saving a few minutes in your busy day. Take the time to invest in one that suits your skin and once you've started using it, there'll be no turning back.

Literally just two spritzes onto the face after cleansing is all it takes!

Using a raw, organic, natural, superfood-packed skin toner will leave your skin feeling cleaner, fresher and looking and feeling great!

Thank you for telling me what toner does for my skin. I have never wanted to use it till recently and as you know I bought 2 bottles from you. I bought from the department store before and they contain alcohol which was so bad for my skin! Thank you, Jessica.
