In a world full of to-do lists, long working hours and a constant bombardment of information through the internet, it's very easy to neglect self-care.
Having a good balance between what you need to do and what you want to do is a fine line but vitally important to your physical, emotional and spiritual well being.
Here at Rawgaia we firmly believe in the importance of taking a holistic, wide ranging approach to nurturing and honouring your whole self, with looking after your skin included in this.
So we thought we'd have a look today at what else is essential to look after yourself and how we can carve out time in our busy lives to make sure that we are giving our bodies and minds the care, rest and respect they deserve.
From a practical view point, there are three things that we can easily do habitually in order to nourish our whole selves; getting enough sleep, drinking enough water and getting regular exercise.
On face value these things might appear to be related just to our physical well being but it goes deeper than that.
Being sleep deprived not only leaves us physically functioning at a lower level but can affect our mental faculties, our mood and can wreak havoc on our skin.
Similarly, mild dehydration can leave us irritable and prone to headaches and dry skin as well as obviously depriving our bodies of this life giving liquid. Exercise (whether gentle or strenuous) has been shown time and time again to have physical and emotional benefits as it keeps our bodies strong and healthy and leaves our minds in a healthier, more positive state.
Beyond that, the range of things you can do to practise self-care is incredibly wide and varied and depends on your own personal preferences. Some people find nothing more relaxing than soaking in a warm bubble bath with a book, some choose to go for a run by the sea, some like to head into town to do some retail therapy and some people feel at their best when they're in their best dress and made up, ready for a night out with loved ones.
Looking after your skin and hair is another easy way to feel good about yourself and our range of beautiful organic skincare products are perfect for this purpose.
At the end of the day though, regardless of what it is you choose to do, just the conscious act of choosing to spend some time nurturing your whole self is a counter-cultural and positive move to make.
If you neglect your mind, body and soul, how can you expect to perform well in the tasks you need to do? If you feel like you don't have time to take out to look after yourself, then you're doing too much!
Get more sleep, drink more water, do some yoga or go out for a run, look after your skin, indulge yourself in an activity that is purely for pleasure and I promise you won't regret it.
How can you give if your glass is only half full?
Here at Rawgaia we urge you to take a holistic approach to nurturing your whole self TODAY and you'll see every other area of your life start to improve as you go into every day with renewed energy and enthusiasm.
Now...where's my yoga mat?!
